My Best of the Aughts

In some kind of vague order of preference, here are my top 20 games from 2000-2009, across all platforms. These are fluid, and tomorrow the order could change, but this is how it sits right at this moment.

1. Ico - Playstation 2, 2001
Emotive storytelling using gameplay, not cut scenes.

2. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - 2000, Nintendo 64
Flow of time achieves things few other games dream of - a truly living world.

3. Half Life 2 - PC, 2004
A carefully crafted world with fantastic set pieces

4. NCAA Football 09 - Xbox 360, 2008
Representative of the entire series, but this entry added online dynasty.

5. Metroid Prime - Gamecube, 2002
Take a Metroid game, add a dimension, polish until ready. Serve.

6. Super Smash Bros. Melee - Gamecube, 2001
Link pwns Pikachu.

7. Super Mario Galaxy - Wii, 2007
The only 3D Mario game that compelled me to get all 120 stars.

8. Rock Band 2 - Xbox 360, 2008
The most fun four people can have with plastic toys.

9. Pikmin 2 - Gamecube, 2004
Only slightly better than Pikmin.

10. Pikmin - Gamecube, 2001
only slightly worse than Pikmin 2.

11. Eternal Darkness - Gamecube, 2002
Quite possibly the very definition of epic.

12. Batman: Arkham Asylum - Xbox 360, 2009
A lesson in how to make a licensed title.

13. Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - 2002, Gamecube
A technical and storytelling achievement.

14. Bioshock - Xbox 360, 2007
Does atmosphere right. The best character is Rapture.

15. Portal - PC/Xbox 360, 2007
Best writing in a video game. Ever.

16. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - Gamecube 2003
Three games later, they're all still trying to live up to this one.

17. Geometry Wars:Retro Evolved 2 - Xbox 360, 2008
Return of the high score battles from days of yore.

18. Fable II - Xbox 360, 2008
Half life simulator, half fantastic adventure game.

19. Shadow of the Colossus - Playstation 2, 2005
A bit of a let down from Ico, but still a masterpiece of storytelling.

20. Resident Evil 4 - Gamecube, 2005
Gets better as you play, and the action is pitch perfect.

Honorable mentions:

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - 2006, Wii
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - Nintendo DS, 2005
Resident Evil - Gamecube, 2002
Pac-Man Championship Edition - Xbox 360, 2007
Animal Crossing - Gamecube, 2002
Metroid: Zero Mission - Gameboy Advance, 2004
Kirby's Canvas Curse - Nintendo DS, 2005

Good stuff! Makes me want to buy a PS2 just for Ico and Shadow.
Ico is pretty hard to get for a good price these days. It might cost you more than the PS2.
Online dynasties are great.

yeah yeah i know. once i get back from north carolina, we'll pick a day to do the offseason.
I've looked everywhere for Geometry Wars and never found it.
It's a digital download. The only place you'll find it is the Xbox Live Marketplace.
This is the one I was talking about.

Good list, have to agree with pretty much everything except the ones I haven't played, which I'll take your word on (Shadows of the Colossus, Arkham Asylum)

"Link PWNS Pikachu"
